Josh Anderson scored with just 17 seconds remaining after a frantic netfront scramble to propel the Montreal Canadiens to a 4-3 victory over the Toronto Maple Leafs Wednesday night at the Bell Centre.
Anderson's tally came not long after Toronto had tied the game with less than 2 minutes left courtesy of William Nylander. It no doubt sent the Montreal faithful into a French Canadian frenzy.
Michael Bunting got the Leafs on the board first with the opening goal at 11:41 of the 1st period. It would be the only goal by either side in the first 20 minutes. Montreal tied things quickly into the 2nd period, as Cole Caufield only needed 33 seconds to knot the game at 1 apiece. Toronto would later retake the lead at 9:06 from an effort by Denis Malgin. A few minutes after that, though, Montreal would again tie the game courtesy of Cole Caufield's 2nd of the night at 15:56.
Heading to the 3rd period, the final 20 minutes featured 3 goals all within the final 5 minutes of the period. First, it was Sean Monahan's first Montreal goal at 17:30 to give the Habs a 3-2 lead. Nylander then tied things at 3 at 18:10 to set things up for 3-on-3 overtime. But Josh Anderson's goal at 19:41 changed everything.
