Cam Atkinson achieved his 7th NHL hat trick to help the Philadelphia Flyers dominate the New Jersey Devils 6-1 Tuesday night.
Travis Sanheim got the Flyers on the board first with his 1st of the season at just over 9 minutes into period 1. Roughly 10 minutes after that, Atkinson scored his first of the night, his 10th of the season, to make it 2-0 Philly heading into the locker room for the first intermission.
In the 2nd period, the Flyers once again got the jump, courtesy of Justin Braun (2), his 2nd goal of the 2021-22 season to make it 3-0 Philadelphia. And while New Jersey would spoil things a bit with P.K. Subban's 2nd of the season to make it 3-1 Philly, that was all the Devils could muster against a much more prepared Philly team. At the 16:16 mark of period 2, Atkinson logged his 2nd of the night shorthanded for his 11th goal of the season to make it 4-1 Flyers. Oskar Lindblom would add his 2nd of the season to make it 5-1 Philadelphia heading into the 3rd period.
Period 3 saw a similarly fast start for Philadelphia, as Atkinson sent the hats raining from the rafters at Wells Fargo Arena 7:09 into the final regulation frame, his 12th of the season, to make it 6-1 Philly. That would be the only goal scored in the period until the final buzzer.
Philadelphia edged out Jersey in every team stat category, with 30-27 advantages on shots, 24-22 on hits, and 31-28 on faceoff wins. They also racked up 10 penalty minutes compared to Jersey's 2, Tomas Tatar getting called for slashing 2 minutes into the game.
