Avs Tear Open Finals with 7 Goal Burying of Lightning in Game 2

Yeah, Colorado, you put Tampa in their place early!

The Avalanche lived up to their name with a dominant 7-0 shutout victory in Game 2 of the Stanley Cup Finals against the two-time defending Cup champion Tampa Bay Lightning, off of 2 pairs of goals from Valeri Nichushkin and Cale Makar.

Nichuskin was actually the first guy on the scoreboard, his 7th of the playoffs on the power play at 2:54 in period 1 giving Colorado the early lead. Josh Manson (3) scored at 7:55 to extend the lead to 2 and Andre Burakovsky (3) at 13:52 gave the Avs an impressive 3-0 lead heading to the 2nd period. At 4:51 of that period, Nichushkin scored his 2nd of the night, his 8th of the postseason to extend the Avs advantage to 4-0. That would be the last tally for a while until Darren Helm (2) scored at 16:26 to make it 5-0 Avalanche heading to period number 3. And at that point, you could say this game was over. And you'd be exactly right, as Makar got his 2 goals both in that period, at 2:04 shorthanded and then at 9:49 on the power play for Colorado's touchdown goal. They were Mr. Leafy Green's 6th and 7th goals of the postseason.
