Patrick Kane and Brandon Hagel achieved their 10th and 1st career NHL hat tricks as the Chicago Blackhawks dumped 8 goals on the New Jersey Devils Friday night in the Windy City at the United Center.
Hagel drew first blood for the Hawks with his 15th of the season at 7:34. The Devils, however, would hold a 2-1 advantage heading to the first intermission after goals by Jack Hughes (15) at 9:41 and Yegor Sharangovich (12) at 18:55, respectively.
Chicago came firing on all cylinders for the 2nd, though, as Kane tallied his first two goals of the night back-to-back at 1:34 and 11:24 for his 14th and 15th goals of 2021-22, both of which came on the power play, giving the Hawks a new 3-2 lead. Later on at 14:09, Hagel would add his 2nd of the night and 16th of the season on the man advantage to make it 4-2 Chicago. The Devils would add one more back before the end of the period though, as Jesper Bratt (17) put Jersey within 1 with his 17th of the season making it 4-3 Hawks.
The Devils would also draw first blood in the 3rd period, as they tied things at 4 at the 8:36 mark, courtesy of Jonas Siegenthaler (1). Chicago would add a pair of goals by Kirby Dach (8) at 14:04 and Ryan Carpenter (2) at 14:45 to give the Hawks a 6-4 lead. And while New Jersey still didn't go away with Bratt's 2nd of the game for his 18th of the season at 15:45, once again putting the Devils back within 1, Chicago finished off the Turnpike Terrors with Kane and Hagel completing their hatty's back-to-back at 18:37 for Kane, his 16th of the season and 19:32 for Hagel, his 17th of 2021-22 to make it 8-5 Hawks, which would be the final score.
