Colin Blackwell's 1st NHL hat trick along with 2 goals from rookie superstar Connor Bedard helped the Chicago Blackhawks beat the Arizona Coyotes 7-4 Sunday night at the United Center.
Clayton Keller broke the ice for the Coyotes, the only goal of the 1st period coming at 6:09 of the 1st for a 1-0 Arizona advantage. Moving to the 2nd, he'd score again just 11 seconds in, making it 2-0 Yotes. Chicago answered back at the 5:28 mark from Bedard's 1st of the night, his 18th of the season and then Blackwell put the Hawks in front 2-1 at 6:57 with his 6th of the season. Bedard added his 2nd of the game a few minutes later, just past the halfway point of period 2, 10:07, his 19th of the season on a Chicago power play for a 3-2 Hawks lead. Dylan Guenther (9) grabbed one back for Arizona, tying it at 3, but the Hawks got a 4-3 lead heading to the 3rd after Tyler Johnson (14) at 17:50 bagged the Hawks' 2nd PPG of the game.
Starting the 3rd, with a bang no less, was Blackwell, 33 seconds in for his 7th of the season to give Chicago a 5-3 lead before Arizona's final tally by Nick Schmaltz (19)
later on at 6:51. The Hawks would add 2 more goals, first by Ryan Donato (8) at exactly 8 minutes and then Blackwell's hatter at 17:24 on an empty Arizona net.
Chicago improves to 17-43-5, and is still firmly dead last in the Central Division, with a 2-6-2 last 10 record and a duel with Anaheim at home next up tomorrow at 8:30 pm. They've also already become the first team to officially be eliminated from playoff contention, if the absymal record wasn't obvious enough. (Seriosuly, all that effort to draft Bedard and you still stink) Arizona drops to 26-34-5, and is 7th in the Central Division (another grudge match game recap, yay) with a 3-6-1 last 10 record; they travel to Minnesota to face the Wild tomorrow at 8 pm.
