Vladimir Tarasenko provided a pair of goals and David Perron scored his 6th of the season to give the St. Louis Blues a 3-0 win over the visiting Los Angeles Kings Monday night. After an uneventful first two periods, it would only make sense for the home team to save their best efforts for last. I thought the game would be looking at overtime, but once Tarasenko had a pair of goals for the night, that notion was quickly dismissed.
And you thought he was gonna be traded during the offseason or not have that much playing time this season due to injury.
Another stat both teams seemed to be lacking in was the penalty minutes. There were a total of 10 combined PIM between the two squads. Surprisingly enough, for what seemed like a boring game for the first 40 minutes, attendance at the Enterprise Center was at 88% capacity, the official tally being just over 16,000 faithful. The game was physical in some regard, though- a combined 35 hits between the Kings and the Blues. The home squad also barely outshot the visitors, registering 35 total shots while the away team had 34. St. Louis also won more face-offs, with 32 wins compared to Los Angeles' 23.
St. Louis remains undefeated, moving to 6-0-0 on the season, the first time in franchise history they've done so. The Kings, on the other hand, drop to a depressing 1-4-1. Next up for the Blues is a Thursday night home tilt against the Stanley Cup favorite Colorado Avalanche at 8 PM. For Los Angeles, they head back home to take on the Winnipeg Jets at 10 PM. Both games will be streaming on ESPN+.
