Cale Makar Powers Avalanche Past Red Wings with Hat Trick

Cale Makar made it rain hats and presumably his namesake vegetable for his 1st career NHL hat trick in a 7-2 Colorado win over Detroit on Tuesday at Ball Arena.

Despite Detroit's Robby Fabri giving the Wings an early 1-0 lead at 1:48 of the first period on a Detroit PP for his 16th of the season, Makar tied it at 1 with his 15th of the year at 5:15. Detroit later got back in front 2-1 with David Perron (13) at 13:30. but Colorado responded with a Mack Attack, Nathan MacKinnon's 40th of the season on a Colorado PP tying it at 2 before the end of the 1st 20 minutes.

And let's just say from there, it was all Colorado. Period 2's first goal was from Artturi Lehkonen (10) at the 8:49 mark, followed by Makar at 16:12 (16) and 19:26 (17) on another Colorado man advantage to complete his 1st career NHL hat trick. Honestly, with how good he is for a defenseman no less, I was very surprised to learn that fact. Moving to the 3rd, Jonathan Drouin (12) at 7:12 and Jean-Luc Foudy (1) at 15:25 finished off the long already Dead Wings.

Colorado improved to 39-20-5 and picked up 1 more win since this game. They are 3rd in the Central Division, albeit tied with 2nd place Winnipeg on points, with a 7-2-1 last 10 record and a trip to Calgary up next on March 12 at 9 pm. Detroit dropped to 33-23-6 and dropped another game after that, placing them 4th in the Atlantic Division, tied with 5th place Tampa Bay on points, with a 6-4-0 last 10 record but a 4-game skid; they play Vegas tonight at 10 pm!! It's gonna be 5...!
