Michael Carcone achieved his 1st career NHL hat trick as the Arizona Coyotes spanked the Chicago Blackhawks 8-1 Monday night at Mullett Arena.
Despite rookie sensation Connor Bedard needing just under 30 seconds to open the scoring in the first period, Arizona would tally 3 in a row afterward to quickly shake that cute effort off. And it was the only Chicago goal of the game as you might've read, which further adds to the embarrassment. Carcone made it 1-1 just a couple minutes after Bedard's opener for his 2nd of the season and then Josh Brown at 13:53 and Carcone's 2nd of the game at 15:55 on an Arizona power play (4) gave the Yotes a solid 3-1 lead heading to the 2nd period.
Carcone opened the 2nd period scoring this time at exactly 5 minutes in, with his hat-raining goal giving the Coyotes a 4-1 lead, but Arizona wasn't done there. Not by a long shot. They'd add 3 more just like they did in the 1st, this time by Jack McBain at 6:38, Sean Durzi at 11:18, and Liam O'Brien at 15:36 for an Arizona touchdown goal. The Coyotes would add their 8th and final goal just past the halfway point of period 3, at 10:37, from McBain's 2nd of the night.
Arizona improves to 4-4-0 and 4th in the Central Division, winners of 3 of their last 5. Their next game is a trip to Anaheim tomorrow night at 10 p.m. Chicago drops to 3-6-0 on the season and remains last in the Central Division after losing 4 of their last 5, including this result. They play next back home against Eastern powerhouse Florida, November 4 at 8 pm.
