Compher's 2 Goals Help Avalanche Spoil Blues' Perfect Record

The Colorado Avalanche handed the St. Louis Blues their first loss of the 2021-22 regular season with a hard-fought 4-3 victory Thursday night. Left winger J.T. Compher provided the Avs with a pair of goals that gave Colorado a 2-1 by the middle of the 2nd period, and from there, Colorado never looked back.

Although the Blues got on the board first with Colton Parayko's 1st of the season, St. Louis found out they were quickly overmatched by Colorado's skill. And while it looked like the Blues were mounting somewhat of a comeback after Vladimir Tarasenko added his 4th of the season to cut the Avs lead to 1 with just under 4 minutes to go, St. Louis ended up running out of time thanks to Colorado's superior defensive efforts.

Colorado completely outshot the Blues as well, racking up 42 to St. Louis' pitiful 18. The Blues did outdo the Avs in hits, PIM , and the number of faceoffs won. There were a combined 46 hits during the entire length of the game. Colorado won 29 faceoffs while St. Louis pulled ahead with 33 circle wins. The Blues racked up an impressive 37 PIM while the Avalanche kept things clean with only 19 PIM. St. Louis had 24 total hits in the game, squeaking past Colorado's 22 checks.

Next up for the Blues is a Saturday night home tilt against the rival Chicago Blackhawks at 8 PM, while the Avalanche head back to Denver for a Saturday night home tilt against the Minnesota Wild at 9 PM. Both games will stream on ESPN+.
