Nick Schmaltz and Clayton Keller each scored 2 goals while Schmaltz added 5 assists to Keller's 2 while Shayne Gostisbehere added a goal and 3 assists as the Arizona Coyotes statistically beat the Ottawa Senators 8-5 Saturday night in Glendale at Gila River Arena.
Keller got things going for the Yotes with his 22nd of the season at 13:53 of the first period, and that would be the only goal by either side in the first frame. In the 2nd period, Schmaltz opened the scoring, making it 2-0 Arizona at 2:50 for his 13th of the season. At 12:35, Matias Maccelli (1) made it 3-0 Coyotes. However, Ottawa would log 3 straight goals in just over that many minutes to tie things at 3 heading to the 3rd period, courtesy of Parker Kelly (3) at 13:54, Josh Norris at 15:11 on the power play (19), and Kelly's 2nd of the game (4) at 16:06.
Period 3 saw Ottawa strike first, taking their first lead of the night, 4-3 at just 0:56 into the period, courtesy of Alex Formenton (12). Soon after, at 1:53, the Sens made it a 5-3 lead by virtue of Nick Paul (10). Arizona would not be fazed, however, as they would rattle off 4 straight goals to finish the Sens off, their tallies by Keller's 2nd of the night (23) at 4:07, Lawson Crouse (15) at 6:57 on the power play, Gostisbehere's 2nd of the night (10) at 14:53, and Dysin Mayo (4) at 16:26.
