Alex Debrincat's 5th NHL hat trick helped the Detroit Red Wings cruise past the Calgary Flames 6-2 Sunday afternoon at Little Caeser's Arena.
Debrincat scored the opening goal at 1:59 for his 6th of the season; later on, Detroit made it 2-0 from Joe Veleno (3) at 9:44, where they'd take that 4-0 lead into the 2nd period. Dylan Larkin made it 3-0 Wings at exactly 2 minutes in, much like Debrincat's opener. Sometime later, the Flames would finally get on the board, courtesy of Andrew Mangiapane (3) at 12:12. However, Detroit made it 4-1 with Debrincat's 2nd of the game at 13:33. Calgary would have the last laugh before the end of the 2nd period though, as Yegor Sharangovich (1) made it 4-2 at 18:34.
The 3rd period featured the Wings' final goals, and both came just after 3 minutes in, from Jake Walman (1) at 3:07 and then Debrincat's hat tally at 3:44. By then, Detroit had built up an insurmountable 6-2 lead, which would be the final score.
Detroit improves to 5-1-0 and 1st in the Atlantic Division, riding a 5-game win streak after dropping their season opener to New Jersey 4-3 back on October 12. Their next contest sees them face Seattle at home again on October 24, with puck drop scheduled for 8:15 pm. Calgary, meanwhile, drops to 2-3-1 and 4th in the Pacific Division, with their next game a home tilt with the New York Rangers on October 24 at 9:45 pm.
