Leon Draisaitl achieved 50 goals and 100 points for the 2021-22 NHL season as the Edmonton Oilers walloped the Anaheim Ducks 6-1 Sunday night at the Honda Center.
Tyson Barrie (6) at 4:44 opened the scoring log for the Oilers, starting a 3-goal 1st period for Edmonton. The other two pucks in the net came from Connor McDavid (40) at 8:58 on the power play and Ryan Nugent-Hopkins (9) exactly 7 minutes later to give the Oilers a 3-0 lead heading to the 2nd period.
Only 1 goal was scored in the 2nd period, and it gave Edmonton a 4-0 lead, courtesy of Jesse Puljujarvi (13) at 4:15.
In the 3rd period, Zach Aston-Reese got the Ducks' only goal at 3:16, his 3rd of the season to make it 4-1 Edmonton. Goals by Edmonton's Brett Kulak (4) at 12:13 and Drasaitl's 50th of the season at 16:02 sealed the Ducks' fate.
Edmonton outshot Anaheim 46-32, while the Ducks had a 14-13 hits advantage and a 30-27 faceoff win advantage. Edmonton logged 6 penalty minutes, while Anaheim only managed 4.
Next up for the Oilers is a puddle jump south to San Jose to face the Sharks in the Shark Tank on April 5 at 10:30 PM. For Anaheim, they head north of the US border to face the Calgary Flames at the Scotiabank Saddledome on April 6, with puck drop scheduled for 10 PM.
