Radek Faksa scored a pair of goals as the Dallas Stars piled 10 total goals on the Buffalo Sabres Thursday night at the KeyBank Center.
Wyatt Johnston (16) at 7:06 kicked off 3 unanswered goals by the Stars in the 1st period, his effort coming before Joe Pavelski (16) on the power play at 19:07 and Jamie Benn (27) at 19:25. But Buffalo logged 1 goal back just 10 seconds later for the final goal of the period, courtesy of newcomer Jordan Greenway (3) at 19:35.
Joel Kiviranta (7) opened the Dallas scoring in the 2nd period at 8:37 to give the Stars a 4-1 lead before Buffalo cut things in half by way of Kyle Okposo (9) at 9:51. Dallas would add another goal from Ryan Suter (2) at 10:38 to take a 5-2 lead heading to the 3rd period.
Jeff Skinner (28) at 3:49 of period 3 put the Sabres within a couple before the Stars unleashed another unanswered goal barrage, this one containing 4 from the likes of Evgenii Dadonov (6) at 9:12, Faksa's first of the night (9) at 9:41 followed by his 2nd of the night (10) at 11:38 and Roope Hintz (31) at 12:15. This gave Dallas an insurmountable 9-3 lead with just under 8 minutes to go in regulation. Buffalo's final goal of the game came from Victor Olofsson (24) just 16 seconds after Hintz's effort, but things were long over by then and Dallas added a 10th tally by Mason Marchment (11) at 16:12 to cap things off.
The Stars greatly outshot the Sabres 49-29 while winning 40 faceoffs compared to Buffalo's 28. They also edged them on hits with a 30-26 advantage. The Sabres logged 6 total penalty minutes to the Stars' 4.
Dallas improves to 35-17-13 and remains at the top of the Central Division just above Minnesota. Their next contest sees them travel to Seattle for a Kraken clash on March 11 at 10 pm. Buffalo, meanwhile, falls to 32-28-4 and 6th in the Atlantic Divison with their 3rd straight defeat tonight. They play next at home against the New York Rangers on the same day but with puck drop scheduled for 5 pm.
