Golden Knights Raise Cup Banner, Defeat Kraken in Home Opener

The newly crowned Vegas Golden Knights raised their first championship banner to the rafters of T-Mobile Arena en route to a 4-1 win over the Seattle Kraken Tuesday night in Sin City.

Vegas nabbed the first goal of the game with a diving effort from center Chandler Stephenson at 7:16. And by a diving effort, I mean Stevenson literally jumped over a poke check from Seattle goalie Philipp Grubauer to tuck the opening goal home. The Golden Knights later made it 2-0, with career franchise leader Jonathan Marchessault getting credit for a Seattle own goal at 14:57 of the 1st period. Vegas would make it 3-0 about a minute and a half into the 2nd period, courtesy of D Ivan Barbashev, even though at 8:19, Seattle spoiled Vegas' shutout bid with a goal from Jared McCann. The final goal of the night didn't come until late in the 3rd period, with less than 2 minutes remaining, as Jack Eichel slam dunked an empty netter to make it 4-1 Golden Knights, icing the season opener for the 2023 Stanley Cup champions.

Vegas' next contest sees them travel to San Jose, where they dive into the SAP Center, to face the San Jose Sharks on October 12, at 10:30 p.m. (No, I'm not making that up- dang Pacific time. And Vegas is just barely in it!) Seattle, meanwhile, stays on the road and heads far east to take on Nashville in the Predators' home opener, which makes them the only team so far this season to be the visiting side in 2 other teams' first home games of the season. Puck drop is scheduled at 8 pm on October 12.
