Hayes Scores First Career Hat Trick To Send Flyers Past Ducks

Kevin Hayes achieved his first career NHL hat trick as the Philadelphia Flyers beat the Anaheim Ducks 5-2 Tuesday night at the Wells Fargo Center.

Hayes was the first player on the board at 13:32 of the 1st period, scoring his 11th of the season on the power play for the only goal of the period. Tony DeAngelo and Travis Koenecy picked up the assists for their 19th and 23rd helpers of the season.

Adam Henrique was the first player for the Ducks on the scoresheet and had the first tally of the 2nd period. It was his 15th of the season at the 7:39 mark. However, the Flyers added a pair of goals to take a 3-1 lead heading to the 3rd period, efforts from Rasmus Ristolainen (1) shorthanded at 12:43 and Morgan Frost (9) at 19:21 breaking the 1-1 tie.

Hayes opened the 3rd period scoresheet at exactly 2 and a half minutes in for his 2nd of the game and his 12th of the 2022-23 season. Much later on, Frank Vatrano would get Anaheim's final goal of the night at 18:51 on a Ducks power play, his 7th of the season to halve a 4-2 Philadelphia lead. Hayes, however, finished off the Ducks with his hat trick goal at 19:16 into an empty Anaheim net (13)

The Flyers both outshot and outhit the Ducks 39-27 and 25-17 while being edged in faceoff wins 28-24. Anaheim also racked up more penalty minutes than the Flyers, totaling 15 compared to Philly's 11. The Ducks fall to 12-28-5 and remain dead last in the Pacific Division, losing their 5th straight with tonight's result. They play the Blue Jackets in Columbus next on Jan. 19 at 7 pm. The Flyers, meanwhile, improve to 19-19-7 and remain in 7th place in the Metro Division with their next contest a home tilt against Chicago at the same date and time.
