Jack Roslovic had 2 goals and 1 assist and Max Domi added a goal and 2 assists to help the Columbus Blue Jackets outlast the Buffalo Sabres in the 2021-22 NHL season's latest 11-goal affair Sunday night.
Although the Sabres' Tage Thompson added a pair of goals of his own, it wasn't enough for Buffalo to come back against the visiting Jackets, who arguably had more firepower that night. Thompson did draw first blood for the Sabres, though, 3:38 into period 1, his 7th of the season. His 2nd of the night came mid 2nd period roughly 10 minutes in on the power play. Before that, though, Roslovic had already picked up his 2 goals on the night back to back, getting his 1st and 2nd goals of the season in one night. With 1 second on the clock in period 1, Zemgus Girgensons added his 4th of the season and the Sabres' first goal of the game on the man advantage, getting it past Jackets goalie Joonas Korpisalo.
In period 2, it took less than a minute of play in for Columbus to turn a 2-2 tie into a 4-2 lead, courtesy of Oliver Bjorkstrand (6) and Max Domi (2). At the 3:41 mark, Columbus made it a 5-2 lead with Vladislav Gavrikov's 1st. The Sabres would respond 1:03 later with Dylan Cozen (4). All of a sudden, it was now a 5-4 Columbus lead.
Surpisingly, in period 3, no scoring took place until the final minute of regulation. Gavrikov added his 2nd and Sean Kuraly (3) bagged an empty-netter to put the game away for the Blue Jackets, a 7-4 final result.
Strangely, the Sabres outshot, outhit, and won more faceoffs than the Jackets, Columbus' only adavantage being in penalty minutes racked up. Buffalo had 33-29, 13-8, and 29-24 ratios for the former categories, while Buffalo had a 10-8 advantage for the latter.
Columbus' next outing is a home tilt against the Winnipeg Jets Wednesday night Nov. 24 at 7 PM. For Buffalo, they stay at home to face the visiting Boston Bruins, same night and same time.
