Johnsson's 4-Point Night Propels Devils over Flyers

Andreas Johnsson had 2 goals and 2 assists for a 4-point night to help the New Jersey Devils sweep aside the visiting Philadelphia Flyers 5-2 Sunday night. Jesper Bratt also added a goal and 2 assists to give himself 3 points on the night.


Dougie Hamilton got New Jersey on the board first with his 6th goal of the season at the 5:07 mark of period 1. Later in period 1, Scott Laughton outskated P.K. Subban shorthanded to score his 4th goal of the season past Devils netminder Mackenzie Blackwood. Only 1 goal was scored in period 2, and it came early, roughly 2 minutes in, as Johnsson scored the first of his goal pair, his 8th of the season, to make it 2-1 Jersey.


In the 3rd period, the Flyers had the hot start with Joel Farabee's 7th of the season past Blackwood to tie things at 2. Later on, at 12 minutes in, Jesper Bratt scored his 5th of the year past Flyers goalie Martin Jones to give Jersey the lead back, making it 3-2 Devils. From there, it was all Jersey as Nathan Bastian (2) and Johnsson (9) sealed the Flyers' fate, setting the final score at 5-2.


The Devils outshot the Flyers 35-25 and tied with them for penalty minutes, each team racking up 11 minutes spent in the sin bin. Philly countered by having a hits advantage of 26-21 and a faceoff wins adavantage of 33-27.


Next up for New Jersey is a Tuesday night, Nov. 30, home tilt against the San Jose Sharks at 7 PM. For the Flyers, they make a puddle jump to NYC to face a Rangers team that hasn't played since last Friday due to opponent COVID issues Wednesday, Dec. 1, with puck drop also at 7 PM.
