Evander Kane achieved his 4th career NHL hat trick as the Edmonton Oilers clinched a spot in the 2022 Stanley Cup Playoffs with a 6-3 win over the Colorado Avalanche Friday night in Edmonton.
Only 1 goal was scored in the opening period, and it came from Colorado's Valeri Nichushkin (23) at 8:29 for his first of 2 goals on the night.
2:41 into the second period, Evander Kane (18) tied things for the Oilers. At 4:03, Edmonton made it 2-1 with Evan Bouchard (11). Even though Nichushkin would add his 2nd of the night just 15 seconds later for his 24th of the season, Edmonton countered with two straight goals by Kane to complete his hat trick, his 19th and 20th goals of 2021-22 coming at 8:19 and 14:20 to complete his hat trick. The Oilers had a 4-2 lead heading to the 3rd period.
In the 3rd period, it took a while before anyone lit the lamp, the first tally not coming til a little over halfway, with Kailer Yamamoto (19) at 10:45 making it 5-2. At 18:20, Nathan MacKinnon (32) would tally Colorado's final goal of the night, but it might as well have been in vain as just 27 seconds later, Kris Russell's 2nd of the season sealed the Avs' fate.
