Kane's 7th Career Hat Trick Helps Blackhawks Pick Up Long Awaited First Win of the Season

Updated: Nov 4, 2021

Patrick Kane scored the 7th hat trick of his NHL career to help the Chicago Blackhawks finally pick p their first win of the 2021-22 NHL season with a 5-1 victory over the visiting Ottawa Senators. Kane also got 4 points total after an assist from Chicago's opening goal late in the first period by Brandon Hagel, who would end up having the Hawks' other two goals. Ottawa got their only puck in the net early in the 3rd period roughly 2 minutes in, and this was after Kane had completed his hat trick a mere 21 seconds earlier and Hagel had added his 2nd of the night just 27 seconds into the final regulation period of play.

The win broke the winless streak for the Blackhawks, who came into tonight with a dismal 0-7-2 record on the season, putting them dead last in the overall league standings. After tonight, they moved up only one position to 31st, ahead of the still winless Arizona Coyotes.

Ottawa did out-hit and almost out-shoot the Hawks, but Chicago had the edge in the latter, racking up 31 shots to Ottawa's 30. The Sens also had 37 hits compared to Chicago's 34. Chicago further held an edge over Ottawa on faceoff wins, with 27 circle duel victories to the Sens' 19. Both teams combined for a total of 14 penalty minutes,

Next up for Chicago is a Wednesday night home tilt against the only remaining unbeaten team in the NHL, the Carolina Hurricanes, who they lost to on Oct. 29 in Raleigh, 6-3. Puckdrop is scheduled for 8:30 PM. For the Senators, they head north to St. Paul to take on the Minnesota Wild Tuesday night at 8 PM.
