The Seattle Kraken had 1 goal for every period en route to a 3-0 shutout victory over the Vegas Golden Knights Monday afternoon at T-Mobile Park, home to MLB's Seattle Mariners.
Yes, I hate writing this as a Vegas fan. They put in their worst goaltender. The one that should've been in won their home opener back in October easily.
Eeli Tolvanen's 10th of the season got Seattle going at the 4:50 mark off a tip-in from a from-the-point shot. Vince Dunn added his 25th assist of the season, while Adam Larsson was credited with another assist, his 9th of 2023/24. That was all for period 1, until just a couple of minutes into the 2nd where Will Borgen (1) fired a rocket past Vegas goalie Logan Thompson to make it 2-0 Seattle. In the 3rd period, the Kraken capitalized off a disastrous Vegas turnover as Yanni Gourde shot a New Year's Day present past Thompson for a 3-0 Seattle advantage. It would end up being the final score, thanks in part to Seattle's stellar all game long defense.
Vegas did at least outshoot the Kraken 35-27 and edged them on faceoffs 32-29. Seattle countered with 1 penalty in the whole game to Vegas' 2 and outhit the VGK 27-17.
Seattle improves to 15-14-9, 4th in the Pacific, picking up their 5th straight win today. They are also 7-1-2 in their last 10 games, with a home meeting against Ottawa up next on January 4 at 10 pm. Vegas drops to 22-11-5, 2nd in the Pacific, with a 4-6-0 last 10 record, with their next game a home clash with Florida, same date and time. Funny enough, they just played them on the road (12/23/23) and lost there, 4-2. Great!
