Chris Kreider achieved the 5th hat trick of his NHL career while Jacob Trouba added a pair of goals and an assist as the New York Rangers scored 7 in a 7-3 Saturday night victory over the Arizona Coyotes.
Liam O'Brien lit the lamp first for either team with his 2nd of the season at just 2:29 into the first period to make it 1-0 Arizona. About 45 seconds later at 3:15, Jacob Trouba would add his first of the night, his 7th of the season to make it a 1-1 tie. At the 6:56 mark, Andrew Ladd (6) made it 2-1 Arizona, which would be the advantage the Coyotes would hold til the first intermission.
In the 2nd period, Arizona opened the scoring once again, albeit a bit later than before, making it a 3-1 lead at 7:01 with Clayton Keller's 15th of the season. That would be Arizona's last puck in the net, though, as the Rangers would tack on 6 unanswered goals, 4 of which came in the remainder of the 2nd period. The 4-goal barrage started with Kreider's 1st of the game and 27th of the season shorthanded, Julien Gauthier (3) at 15:26, Artemi Panarin (11) on the power play at 16:33, and Kreider's 2nd of the night at 18:42 for his 28th of 2021-22.
In the 3rd period, Trouba picked up his 2nd of the night, his 8th of the season at just 1:33 into the frame. At the 10:06 mark, Kreider completed his hat trick with goal number 29 on the power play to send the hats raining from the rafters. It would be the final goal for either team for the remainder of the game.
