Dylan Larkin achieved the first hat trick of his NHL career and added an assist to help the Detroit Red Wings take down the New Jersey Devils 5-2 Saturday night in the Motor City at Little Caesars Arena. Tyler Bertuzzi added to Larkin's 3-goal performance with a pair of goals himself.
Larkin was, of course, the first player on either squad to light the lamp on the night, scoring his 13th of the season at 15:39 into period 1. A few minutes later, Michael McLeod tied things up for the Devils with his 2nd of the season to make it 1-1 heading into the first intermission.
In the 2nd period, Larkin was once again the first on the scoresheet, his 14th of 2021-22 coming at 11:48 of the 2nd regulation frame to make it 2-1 Detroit. Less than a minute later, Bertuzzi added his first of the night and his 11th of the season to make it 3-1 Wings. 5 or so minutes after that, Larkin completed his hat trick at 15:47 of period 2 for his 15th goal of the season to make it 4-1 Detroit. The Devils would finally respond courtesy of Dawson Mercer's shorty at 17:25, his 8th of the season to make it 4-2 Wings.
Period 3 only saw 1 goal, and it was Bertuzzi's 2nd of the night and 12th of the season at 14:07, making it 5-2 Wings.
