Jonathan Marchessault notched his 6th career NHL hat trick while William "Wild Bill" Karlsson added a goal and an assist as the Vegas Golden Knights skated to a decisive 5-2 win over the Winnipeg Jets Wednesday night at T-Mobile Arena.
Karlsson made it 1-0 Vegas at 10:45 of the 1st period, the only goal in the first 20 minutes, before the 2nd period, which saw the Jets knot things at 1 via Kyle Connor (6) at 6:17. Vegas reclaimed the lead, adding 2 more goals, and both came on the power play, the first from Marchessault at exactly 7 minutes and then Ivan Barbashev (3) at 8:38. The VGK held this 2-1 advantage heading to the 3rd period. Alex Iafallo made it 2-2 for Winnipeg just 1:51 in, but Vegas quickly countered with a double by Marchessault, first at 5:47 for his 5th of the season to make it 4-2 for the VGK and then an empty netter at 17:08 for his 6th goal of the season to make it 5-2 Vegas for the eventual final.
Vegas improves to 10-0-1 and remains firmly at the top of the Pacific, picking up their 3rd straight win with last night's result. Their next contest sees them clash with Colorado on November 4 at 10 p.m. Meanwhile, Winnipeg drops to 4-4-2 and 4th in the Central, losing their 3rd straight as of last night's contest. They play next at Arizona on November 4, with puck drop scheduled for 4 p.m.
