Mason Marchment achieved his 1st career NHL hat trick as the Florida Panthers dominated the home-strong Minnesota Wild 6-2 Friday night in St. Paul.
Although Minnesota opened the scoring with Kirill Kaprizov getting his 23rd of the season on the power play at 7:07, Florida snuffed that out with 4 unanswered goals, 2 of which came in the same period, courtesy of Marchment's 9th at 10:02 and his 10th just a couple minutes later to give the Cats a 3-1 first period lead heading to the 2nd.
In the 2nd period, only 1 goal was scored by either side, and it was Florida's Anthony Duclair (20) at 8:38 making it 4-1 Panthers.
The 3rd period saw the Cats make it 5-1 just 1:41 in, as Aaron Ekblad's 12th on the power play further diminished Minnesota's chances of a comeback. The Wild would only add 1 more goal on the night, courtesy of Mats Zuccarello (16) on the power play at 9:42. Florida, meanwhile, would add a pair of goals by Carter Verhaeghe (16) at 13:18 and Marchment completing his hat trick for his 11th of the season a little over a minute later. The Cats would hold this 6-2 lead for the remaining 6.5 minutes.
