Auston Matthews achieved his 6th career NHL hat trick as the Toronto Maple Leafs beat the Seattle Kraken 6-4 Tuesday night at Scotiabank Arena.
Matthews only needed 3:18 into the 1st period to get his night going, scoring his 41st of the season on the power play. A couple of minutes later, Carson Soucy tied things for the Kraken with his 7th goal of the season. Toronto would add 1 more goal by period's end, though, and it was John Tavares (19) at 9:55 giving the Leafs a 2-1 lead heading to the locker room for the first time.
Toronto struck first again on the power play, courtesy of William Nylander (22) at 5:14. Once again, though, Seattle would put themselves within 1, as Alex Wennberg (7) scored at 9:20 to make it a 3-2 Toronto lead. And a couple minutes later, the Kraken would tie things at 3 courtesy of Colin Blackwell's (8) shorty at 11:49. The 2 teams headed to the 3rd tied at 3 apiece.
This time, Seattle opened the scoring in the 3rd period, but as fate would have it, it would be their last goal of the night, courtesy of Jaden Schwartz (7) at 5:57. Toronto would add 3 straight goals, Matthews' 2nd at 9:03 (42), Mitch Marner (23) on the power play just 30 seconds later, and Matthews' hat-trick goal at 19:18 for his 43rd of the season.
