Jared McCann achieved his 1st career hat trick as the Seattle Kraken thrashed the Chicago Blackhawks 8-5 Saturday night in Chicago.
Daniel Sprong (14) opened the scoring for the Kraken at the 2:50 mark of period 1. Jonathan Toews (12) got the opener for the Hawks, but Seattle added 5 unanswered goals to seemingly put the game away early, holding a 6-1 lead heading to the 2nd period. Those 5 consecutive goals were tallied by Matty Beniers (17) at 9:30, McCann's first of the night, his 20th of the season at 10:46, Andre Burakovsky (12) at 12:08, Eeli Tolvanen (7) at 12:45, and finally McCann's 2nd of the night (21) at 13:11.
Only 1 goal was scored by either side in the 2nd period, and it was Chicago's Isaak Phillips (1) at just over halfway at 10:45. Chicago did also get on the board first in the 3rd period, with Max Domi (13) on the power play tallying one just 51 seconds into the final 20 minutes. Seattle added McCann's hat trick goal at 1:54 (22), then Oliver Bjorkstrand (7) 2:37 in for Seattle's final goal of the night. Chicago's final 2 tallies came from Taylor Raddysh on the power play (16) at 12:50 and then Patrick Kane with 15 seconds left in regulation, his 8th of the season.
Seattle outshot Chicago 30-27 while edging them on faceoff wins 32-20 and equaling the Hawks in penalty minutes with 4 apiece. Chicago logged 26 hits to Seattle's 17. The Blackhawks fall to 11-26-4 and remain dead last in the Central Division, with their next contest at home against the Sabres on Jan. 17 at 8:30 PM. Seattle, meanwhile, improves to 26-12-4 while remaining in 2nd place in the Pacific Division behind Vegas. Their next game is a home clash with the Tampa Bay Lightning on Jan. 16, with a 4 pm puck drop scheduled.
