Both Connor McDavid and Leon Drasaitl picked up 2 goals and 2 assists each as the Edmonton Oilers held off the Arizona Coyotes 5-3 on Tuesday night, Nov. 23. McDavid extended his goal count on the year to 14 while Drasaitl extended his to 20, becoming the first player in the NHL this season to reach 20 goals on the year.
Although the Coyotes drew first blood with Clayton Keller's (5), from there, it was all Oilers. 15 minutes into period 1 and 9 minutes or so after Keller's goal, McDavid got his first of the night past Arizona goalie Scott Wedgewood on the power play. McDavid's 2nd of the night came with 28 seconds left in regulation time. In the 2nd period, only one goal was scored by either team, and it was Drasaitl's first of the night at the 10:53 mark. The Oilers headed into the 2nd intermission with a 2-1 lead.
In the 3rd period, Zach Kassian picked up his 4th of the season to make it 3-1 Edmonton. Drasaitl added his 2nd of the night at the 13:08 mark on the power play to make it 4-1 Oilers. Arizona would respond with 2 quick goals by Travis Boyd (4) and Shane "Ghost" Gostisbehere (3) to suddenly make it a one goal game and a 4-3 Edmonton lead. McDavid would snuff out any more Arizona chances though with his 2nd goal of the night.
The Oilers had the advantage in shots and faceoff wins, with 44-27 and 39-28 ratios, respectively. Arizona countered with a 22-19 hit advantage and a 8-4 penalty minute ratio.
Next up for the Oilers is a trip to Sin City for a 7 PM clash against the Vegas Golden Knights Saturday night in Fabulous Las Vegas. For the Coyotes, they stay at home for a matchup against the Dallas Stars, same night and same puck drop time.
