J.T. Miller achieved his 2nd career NHL hat trick and added an assist as the Vancouver Canucks blew by the Winnipeg Jets 5-1 Thursday night in the Manitoba capital.
Miller was the first player to get on the scoresheet, with his 1st goal of the night coming at 13:23 of the 1st period on the power play for his 13th of the season. About 3 minutes later, Andrew Kopp would get Winnipeg's only goal at 15:32, his 12th of the season to tie things at 1, which would be the score heading to the first intermission.
The 2nd period belonged to Miller, as he scored the only two goals in the frame to complete his hat trick with goals 14 and 15 at 5:25 and 12:55 to make it a 3-1 Vancouver advantage heading to the 3rd period.
An additional 2 goals were tallied by the Canucks in the 3rd period by Brock Boeser (11) on the power play at 1:08 and Elias Pettersson (11) at 14:00 to make it 5-1 Vancouver.
Although Vancouver tallied a 4-goal victory for the night, the Jets both outshot them 34-33 and outhit them 14-13. On the other hand, the Canucks racked up 38 faceoff wins to Winnipeg's 23 and tallied 11 penalty minutes while the Jets had 9 minutes in the box.
Vancouver's next outing is a trip west to Calgary to face the Flames on Jan. 29 with puck drop scheduled for 10 PM. For Winnipeg, they head south-central to St. Louis to face fellow Central Division foe the St. Louis Blues the same day, though puck drop is scheduled for 3 PM.
