Alex Nylander scored his 1st career NHL hat trick as the Columbus Blue Jackets picked up another marquee win with a 6-3 victory over the Vegas Golden Knights on Monday night at Nationwide Arena.
I know, this is a few days late. I just didn't wanna report on it because, as a Vegas fan, I was THOROUGHLY EMBARRASSED.
Anyway, Columbus got the scoring started courtesy of Justin Danforth (10) at 6:16 of the 1st period for a 1-0 lead before Nylander's 1st of the night and 2nd of the season at 13:11 made it 2-0 Jackets. Vegas responded a few minutes later at 17:19, with Mason Morelli's 3rd of the season cutting the Columbus in half. The VGK would actually tie things at 2 about a minute after that, courtesy of William Karlsson (22) at 18:01 for the final goal of the 1st.
Moving to the 2nd, Columbus bagged the only goal in the middle frame, Erik Gudbranson's 4th of the season late at 17:21 for a 3-2 Columbus lead. Heading to the 3rd, Nylander scored his 2nd of the game (3) at 3:23 to make it 4-2 Jackets before Vegas notched their final goal by way of Chandler Stephenson (14) at 10:16. The Jackets added 2 more though, finishing off the defending Cup champions with tallies from Yegor Chinakhov (16) at 11:20, and Nylander's hat goal (4) at 18:49 on an empty Vegas net.
Columbus improved to 21-30-10 but has since dropped to 22-32-10 as of the time of this writing. They are still dead last in the Metro Division with a 5-5-0 last 10 record and a visit to Montreal up next on March 12 at 7 pm. Vegas fell to 33-22-7 and has dropped 1 more since this contest. They are now 4th in the Pacific Division with a 2-7-1 last 10 record and are currently riding a 4-game losing streak with a home tilt against Detroit tonight at 9 pm as of this writing.
