Victor Olofsson's 2nd goal of the game and his 6th of the season was the overtime winner as the Buffalo Sabres beat the Chicago Blackhawks 4-3 in extra time Saturday night at the KeyBank Center.
Olofsson scored his 1st of the night (his 5th of the season) for the Sabres' first goal and it was the first goal by either side. It came at 6:19 on the power play for Buffalo, and his OT winner was also on the man advantage at just 36 seconds in with a bullet slapshot past Chicago netminder Arvid Soderblom. Heading back to the first period, Chicago tied the game at 1 with a goal by Jason Dickinson (3) on the power play at 10:20 for the final tally of the first 20 minutes.
In the 2nd period, Chicago scored 2 goals from Sam Lafferty (3) at 4:49 and Taylor Raddysh (3) at 6:20 to take a 3-1 lead heading into the 3rd. On the other hand, Buffalo did not manage a goal in the middle period. However, they would score a pair in the 3rd period while preventing Chicago from lighting the lamp again, both goals from Tage Thompson (2 and 3) at 11:55 and 16:47.
Buffalo outshot Chicago 45-27 and received 8 total penalty minutes to the Hawks' 6. Chicago won more faceoffs than the Sabres, 37-14, and outhit them as well, 11-7.
The Sabres improve to 5-3-0 and 3rd in the Atlantic Division while Chicago falls to 4-3-1 and 3rd in the Central Division. Buffalo's next outing is a home Halloween evening tilt with the Detroit Red Wings (4-2-2) at 7 pm. Chicago faces Minnesota (3-4-1, 5th in Central) tomorrow night at home, with puck drop scheduled for 7 pm as well.
