Panthers Erase 5-1 Deficit to Beat Leafs in Overtime

Jonathan Huberdeau scored at 2:46 of overtime to complete a 4-goal comeback for the Florida Panthers finishing the final score at 7-6.

Sam Reinhart (25) at 3:46 of the 1st period opened the scorebook for the Cats, but it was at first all in vain as Toronto would subsequently fire off 5 unanswered goals, only 1 coming in the first period by William Nylander (27) at 15:21 on the power play.

In the 2nd period, Toronto continued its barrage, at first only needing 30 seconds to jump to a 2-1 lead courtesy of Mitch Marner's shorty (30). Marner would actually score again just 37 seconds later for goal #31 of his season to give the Leafs a 3-1 lead. Colin Blackwell (10) at 2:04 made it 4-1 Toronto and Jake Muzzin (3) at 8:40 finished off the barrage of pucks in the cage for the Leafs. Florida, though, was not at all fazed and fired off 3 unanswered goals to all of a sudden put what was looking like a 5-1 eventual defeat into a 5-4 victory reacher. Goals by Reinhardt, his 2nd PPG of the night and 26th of the season at 11:52, Radko Gudas' (3) shorty at 12:51, and Claude Giroux (19) at 17:56 put the Cats back in the game.

At 2:45 of period 3, Huberdeau would tie things at 5 for Florida with his 25th of 2021-22 once again on the power play. Aleksander Barkov (34) at 8:01 gave Florida a 6-5 lead, their first advantage in goals on the night. However, Toronto would add 1 goal back courtesy of John Tavares (25) at 16:06, his own PPG tying the game at 6. Huberdeau would take care of business in the 3-on-3 period to blow the Leafs away once and for all.
