Anthony Duclair scored two goals and Jonathan Huberdeau picked up a goal and 4 assists as the Florida Panthers handed the two-time defending Stanley Cup champion Tampa Bay Lightning their first 9-goal allowance since March 7, 2009.
Florida got things going early with Duclair's 11th of the season just 2:10 into period 1. Later on, at 11:22, Huberdeau would make it 2-0 Panthers with his 11th of the season on the power play. 3 minutes after that, Frank Vatrano (7) made it 3-0 Florida at 14:21. Although Tampa did get on the scoresheet roughly a minute later courtesy of Zach Bogosian (2), the Cats still had a 3-1 lead going to the first intermission.
In the 2nd period, Florida once again had a fast start, with Eetu Luostarinen (8) making it 4-1 Panthers at the 3:02 mark. Later at 6:19, Steven Stamkos (15) cut the Cats lead to 2, making it a 4-2 Florida lead. Further down the period time, Florida would add 2 more goals, increasing their lead to 6-2 heading into the 2nd intermission, courtesy of Maxim Mamin (4) at 17:26 and Anton Lundell (7) with 37 seconds left in the period.
The 3rd period saw Tampa strike first, Brayden Point logging his 10th of the season on the power play at 4:27 to make it 6-3 Florida. That would be the only other goal scored by the Lightning, though, as Florida would add 3 unanswered efforts to seal the deal. Duclair tallied his 2nd of the night at 4:38, essentially nullifying Point's earlier tally. At 6:46, Aaron Ekblad (9) made it 8-3 Panthers. Finally, Alexsander Barkov's shorty at 12:31 put away the Lightning for good. This was Barkov's 11th of the season, much like his goalscoring teammates.
