Point's Hat Trick Helps Lightning Strike Down Senators

Brayden Point achieved his 2nd career NHL hat trick as the Tampa Bay Lightning edged the Ottawa Senators 6-4 Saturday night in the Canadian capital.

Brady Tkachuk opened the scoring for Ottawa at 12:58 of the 1st period for his 7th goal of the season, before Tampa tied it up at 1 via a goal from Victor Hedman (2) at 17:05. This would remain the score heading into period 2, where Point got his first of the night, his 3rd of the season just 32 seconds in, making it 2-1 Tampa before Michael Eyssimont (3) made it 3-1 Bolts at 4:57. Point would add 1 more before the end of the middle period, at 18:15 for his 4th of the season and to make it a 4-1 Lightning lead heading to the 3rd period.

Claude Giroux (3) cut the Tampa lead in two with his effort 1:17 into the final 20 minutes before Point achieved his hat trick with a PPG at the 9:38 mark for his 5th of 2023-24. Tkachuk would add a PPG of his own (8) at 11:08 to make it 5-3 Tampa, but they'd make it a 6-3 advantage not even 30 seconds later, courtesy of Nikita Kucherov (7) at 11:24, for the Lightning's last goal. Ottawa's last tally came from Drake Batherson (2) at 12:14 of the period, and thus made up the final score.

With their first road win of the season, Tampa improves to 5-3-3 and 3rd in the Atlantic, with their next contest a clash with Ottawa's provincial neighbors Toronto on November 6 at 7 p.m. Ottawa meanwhile, drops to 4-6-0, last in the Atlantic and their next contest also sees them head to Toronto on November 8, puck drop the same time.
