Jack Roslovic scored at 3:15 of overtime for his 15th goal of the season to achieve his 2nd career NHL hat trick and provide the game-winning goal in the process as the Columbus Blue Jackets beat the Detroit Red Wings 5-4 Saturday night at Little Caesars Arena.
Roslovic actually drew first blood for either squad, tallying his 13th goal of 2021-22 at 13:14 of the first period for the only puck in the cage during the first 20 minutes of regulation.
In the 2nd period, Detroit added a pair of goals by Jakub Vrana (9) at 13:41 and Sam Gagner (12) at 17:21 to take a 2-1 lead. Columbus would tie things at 2 before the end of the period, though, courtesy of Cole Sillinger (12) at 18:01.
Roslovic scored his 2nd of the game for the first goal of period 3, his 14th tally of the season at the 4:04 mark to give the Jackets a 3-2 lead. Much later on, Justin Danforth (9) scored at 12:34 to make it 4-2 Columbus. Detroit would fight back, though, as goals by Dylan Larkin (31) at 15:35 and Vrana's 2nd of the game (10) at 16:33 set the stage for some 3-on-3 extra-time action. But you saw how that went at the beginning of this article.
The Red Wings managed to outshoot, win more faceoffs, and rack up more penalty minutes than Columbus, holding 38-33, 31-28, and 14-6 advantages in those stat categories. On the other hand, the Jackets logged 32 hits to Detroit's 29.
Next up for Columbus is a home tilt against the woeful Montreal Canadiens on April 13 at 7 PM. For Detroit, they stay in Motown to face the Ottawa Senators on April 12, with puck drop scheduled for 7:30 PM.
