Sam Bennett's 3rd Career Hatty Makes Dallas See Stars

Sam Bennett achieved his 3rd career NHL hat trick and 2nd hatty of the 2021-22 season as the Florida Panthers stunned the Dallas Stars 7-1 Friday night in Sunrise.

Gustav Forsling got things going for Florida, with his 1st of the season at 3:01 of period 1. At 8:50, Anthony Duclair made it 2-0 Cats with his 15th of the season. Florida would carry this 2-0 advantage into the first intermission.

In the 2nd period, Florida racked up 4 unanswered goals to make it an astonishing 6-0 deficit heading into the 2nd intermission. The Cats tallied goals by Carter Verhaege (11) at 5:33, Jonathan Huberdeau (14) at 6:03, Bennett's first of the night on the power play (12) at 12:37, and Bennett again at 15:30 for goal #13 of 2021-22.

While Dallas did get on the board quickly thanks to Roope Hintz's 15th of the season at just 1:06 in, Florida erased that tally with Bennett's hat-raining goal at 15:54 much later on. It was Bennett's 14th of the season and that would be the last goal of the night by either team, giving the Panthers a win by a touchdown.

The Cats outshot the Stars 39-30 and had 4 total penalty minutes and Dallas did as well. Florida also won more faceoffs, holding a 38-34 advantage, while getting outhit by the Stars 30-26.

Next up for Florida is a home clash against the Columbus Blue Jackets, Jan. 15 at 6 PM. For Dallas, they head 3.5 hours southeast to clash with the 2-time defending Stanley Cup champion Tampa Bay Lightning the same night, though with a 7 PM puck drop.
