Mark Schiefele logged his 5th career NHL hat trick as the Winnipeg Jets defeated the Minnesota Wild in a Central Division clash Wednesday night at the Canada Life Center.
Things started off slowly for both teams, especially in the first period, as only 1 goal was scored between the two sides, with Minnesota's Joel Eriksson Ek tallying the only puck in the cage in the opening frame. After 20 minutes of hockey, it was 1-0 Minnesota
The 2nd period, however, ended up being all Scheifele, who logged his first 2 goals of the night to mark the only goals in that period as well. Scheifele scored at 9:20 for his 15th of the season and later on at 17:48 on the power play for goal #16 of his 2021-22 campaign. The Jets would hold a 2-1 lead heading into the 3rd period.
Schiefele only needed 1:07 to complete his hat trick in the 3rd period, his 17th goal of 2021-22, which made it 3-1 Winnipeg. A little more than a minute later, Cole Perfetti (2) made it 4-1 Jets at the 2:23 mark. The Wild would respond with Mats Zuccarello's 15th of the season at 4:20 to cut the Winnipeg lead in 2, and the Jets responded to that effort with Kyle Connor's 27th of the season just past the halfway mark to make it 5-2 Jets. Minnesota would tack on 1 more goal by Dmitry Kulikov (4) at 16:46 to make it 5-3 Winnipeg, but this didn't faze the Jets as a goal by Paul Stastny (12) at 17:50 sealed the deal.
