Schenn, Buchenvich Each Have Hat Trick; Blues Bury Avalanche

Brayden Schenn and teammate Pavel Buchnevich each had a hat trick as the St. Louis Blues drubbed the Colorado Avalanche 8-2 Saturday night at Ball Arena.

Yes, two hat tricks. By 2 different players on one team. In the same game.

Schenn was the first player to score for either side, and he only needed 1:08 to make it 1-0 St. Louis en route to 3 unanswered goals by the Blues by the end of the first period. Schenn would make it 2-0 at 18:53 and then Torey Krug beat the buzzer, making it 3-0 Blues with 2 seconds on the clock. The 2nd period was a bit more evenly matched, as Buchnevich notched his 1st of the night, a shorty at the 11:52 mark making it 4-0 Blues. Colorado finally got on the board from Mikko Rantanen (9) at 16:07 for a 4-1 St. Louis lead heading to period 3.

Buchnevich scored his 2nd on the power play 1:20 into the 3rd for a 5-1 St. Louis advantage before Schenn completed his hat trick, also on the man advantage at 2:49 to make it 6-1 Blues. Buchnevich completed his hatty after this with another shorty at 15:57 for the St. Louis touchdown tally. St. Louis' final goal came from Alexey Toropchenko (2) at 19:11 before Colorado added a last gasper from Jack Johnson with 28 seconds left in the game for the final score.

St. Louis improves to 7-5-1, 4th in the Central, with their next game a home clash with Eastern Conference power Tampa on November 14, with puck drop scheduled for 8 pm. Colorado drops to 8-5-0, 2nd in the Central, and they head to Seattle to face the Kraken on November 13 with a 10 pm start time.
