Yegor Sharangovich's 2nd career NHL hat trick helped the Calgary Flames skate to a decisive 6-2 win over the Arizona Coyotes Wednesday night at Mullett Arena.
It didn't take long for the Flames to get things started, as Mikael Backlund (9) needed a mere 20 seconds for a 1-0 Calgary lead. They'd extend that advantage at the 6:37 mark with Sharangovich's 1st of the night and 15th of the season with a shorthanded tally and Rasmus Andersson (7) just over a minute later at 7:56. Arizona did pull one back in the 1st period, courtesy of Lawson Crouse (17) at 13:44, but Calgary made it 4-1 Flames just 14 seconds later from Blake Coleman (18) for the final goal of the opening 20.
Clayton Keller scored Arizona's final goal to cut the Coyotes' deficit in half starting the 2nd at 1:44, and it was the lone goal by either side in the middle frame.
Calgary stayed hot entering the 3rd, especially after Sharangovich completed his hat trick with back to back PPGs for his 16th and 17th of the season, first at just before a minute in and then at the 7:06 mark.
The Flames improve to 19-18-5, 6th in the Pacific Division, with a 6-4-0 record in their last 10 games. They play next at the defending Stanley Cup champion Vegas Golden Knights tomorrow at 10 pm. Arizona drops to 20-18-2, 6th in the Central Division, with a 5-5-0 last 10 record. Their next game is a trip to Minnesota to face the Wild tomorrow at 8 pm.
