Dylan Strome achieved his first career NHL hat trick and added 1 assist while Alex Debrincat tallied 2 goals and an assist as the Chicago Blackhawks outdueled the Detroit Red Wings to pick up their first 8-goal performance since Feb. 2020 with an 8-5 victory Wednesday night in the Motor City.
Dominic Kubalik got things going for Chicago with his 10th of the season at 10:24 to start a 4-unanswered goal first period for the Hawks, as Strome would tally his 1st of the night and 5th of the season on the power play at 12:40 to make it 2-0 Hawks. Strome would add his 2nd of the game at 14:27 for goal number 6 of the season to make it 3-0, and then Chicago made it 4-0 heading into the first intermission with Sam Lafferty's 1st of 2021-22 with 32 seconds remaining in the first period.
That would be all the efforts by Chicago for a while, though, as in the 2nd period, Detroit racked up 3 unanswered goals, courtesy of Robby Fabri (12) at 5:45, Tyler Bertuzzi (20) at 6:41, and Pius Suter (10) with just 13 seconds left in the 2nd to make it 4-3 Chicago heading into the 2nd intermission.
The 3rd period ended up being a scoregami, with Chicago making it 5-3 as Strome completed his hat trick at 6:10, his 7th of the season on the power play. The Hawks then made it 6-3 when Debrincat bagged his 1st of the night and 25th of the season at 8:55. Detroit would respond by adding a pair of goals by Moritz Seider (4) on the power play at 12:05 and Dylan Larkin (20) at 15:25 to make it a 6-5 Chicago lead. Chicago, however, would seal things with their own pair of goals by Brandon Hagel (11) at 16:13 and Debrincat's 2nd of the night (26) at 18:17 to make it 8-5 Hawks.
