Vatrano Scores Hat Trick; Ducks Defeat Hurricanes

Frank Vatrano achieved his 4th career NHL hatty as the Anaheim Ducks pushed past the Carolina Hurricanes 6-3 Sunday night at the Honda Center.

Anaheim's Sam Carrick was first on the scoreboard at 6:52 to make it 1-0 Ducks before Vatrano's first of the night made it 2-0. They'd make it 3-0 by the end of the first period, with Pavel Mintyukov providing the final tally in the opening 20.

Carolina got on the board first in the 2nd period, courtesy of Teuvo Teravainen (3) at 13:52, before Vatrano made it 3-1 Ducks at 16:44 for his 2nd goal of the game. Anaheim held this 3-1 advantage heading to the 3rd, where Teravainen (4) would again score, this time on the power play at the 3:01 mark to pull the Hurricanes within 2. They'd then pull within 1 after another PPG by Marty Necas at 15:29. But that would be the final Carolina goal, as Cam Fowler and Vatrano's empty netters sealed the game for the Ducks at 18:03 and 18:41, respectively.

Anaheim's next contest seems them stay at home to face the Dallas Stars on October 19 at 10 pm. Carolina, meanwhile, caps off their California road trip with a visit to the SAP Center to face the San Jose Sharks on October 17, with puck drop scheduled for 10:30 pm.
