Trevor Zegras has done it again.
The Anaheim Ducks' star center scored 2 goals, first to tie things at 2 midway through the 3rd period and then to win it 4:14 into 3-on-3 overtime against the Washington Capitals Tuesday night.
Anaheim drew first blood 3.5 minutes into period 1 with Cam Fowler's 3rd of the season being blasted past Washington goalie Vitek Vanacek. That would be the only goal scored by either team that period, meaning that the Ducks took a 1-0 lead going into the locker room for the first of two times. That lead would stay where it was going into the locker room for the 2nd time, as there ended up being a scoreless second period.
In the 3rd period, Washginton drew first blood with Garrett Pilon's first of the season to tie things at 1. Anaheim responded at the 10 minute mark with Zegras' 5th of the season. 7.5 minutes after that, Washington tied things up again and set the game up for 3-on-3 overtime with Tom Wilson's 5th of the season. Caps defenseman Martin Fehervary also logged assists on both of Washington's goals.
With 45 seconds left in overtime, Trevor Zegras scored his 6th goal of the season to win it for the Ducks, tossing his stick into the front row over the glass a la Jack Hughes. He didn't do any fancy move beforehand, though. He did, however, get a 10-minute misconduct from the officials. (C'mon, let him have his fun, guys.)
Anaheim just managed to outshoot and outhit the Caps with 31-30 and 23-22 advantages, respectively. The Ducks also won way more face-offs with an impressive 35-17 advantage. Similarly impressive, the Caps only logged one 2-minute penalty, with left winger Axel Jonsson-Fjallby elbowing Ducks defenseman Jamie Drysdale.
Next up for the Ducks is a November 18 home tilt against the fiery Carolina Hurricanes at 8 PM. For Washington, they head northwest to face the Los Angeles Kings Wednesday night, November 17, with the opening puck drop scheduled for 10:30 PM (Pacific Time Zone games lol)
